Daishan county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province has been included in a national program aimed at promoting innovation, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced on May 10.
This is largely due to a series of measures rolled out by authorities, including carrying out innovation-driven development strategies, establishing innovation platforms, attracting high-caliber talent, and nurturing high-tech enterprises.
The county has established a new material research and experimentation base, a green petrochemical technology innovation center, and a digital marine laboratory, with the support of China's top research institutes and universities like the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tsinghua University.
The county has set up the world's largest petrochemical base funded by Zhejiang Petrochemical Co, which has attracted more than 50 petrochemical enterprises engaged in green petrochemicals and clean power.
Daishan is currently home to an offshore wind farm with an installed capacity of 3.15 million kilowatts and a photovoltaic facility of 3.85 million kilowatts.
Authorities said they will sustain efforts to make major breakthroughs in the allocation of scientific and technological resources, innovation of new platforms and recruitment of top talent over the next three years.
