A water conservancy project in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was awarded the Dayu Prize, according to an announcement by the China Water Engineering Association on May 5.

This is the second time Zhoushan has received the honor.

The water conservation facility, located on Zhoushan's seaside corridor, provides flood control and sightseeing.

The facility has played a significant role in helping the city deal with typhoons like Lekima, In-fa, and Chanthu, said local authorities.

Named after Dayu, the founding emperor of the Xia Dynasty (c.21st century-16th century BC) who excelled in preventing floods, the prize recognizes water conservancy projects with outstanding design and quality biennially.
