Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province was included in a provincial pilot program aimed at building demonstration areas for common prosperity, the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission announced on May 4.

Zhoushan made the list due to its two common prosperity practices – tapping into and preserving ecological resources as well as improving the income allocation system.

Zhoushan, which is home to 141 islands, launched 102 projects in 2022 to preserve its ecological resources and develop cultural products, which in turn will aid its common prosperity drive.

The city aims to build garden courtyards across its villages and realize a per capita disposable income of 51,586 yuan ($7,445.65) by 2025.

Shengsi county in Zhoushan, which has established a platform that collects data related to locals' incomes and basic needs, is making efforts to optimize its income allocation system.

The county plans to increase the proportion of households with annual disposable incomes between 100,000 to 500,000 yuan by 10 percent by 2025.
