Zhoushan was rated the second safest city in East China's Zhejiang province in March 2023, local media reported.

The ranking was based on a safety index, an indicator introduced by Zhejiang that is the first of its kind in the country and measures the safety level of cities in the province.

The index evaluates a city's safety in a variety of areas, including politics, society, finance, production, food, medicine, environment, internet, and information.

Zhoushan scored 97.06 points out of 100, ranking second in the province after Huzhou scored 97.39 points.
