Zhoushan's digital economy sees rapid growth

Updated : 2023-04-14 (chinadaily.com.cn)

The operating revenue of the digital economy's core industrial enterprises above designated size in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province hit 1.2 billion yuan ($174.41 million) in the first two months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 32.2 percent, official statistics show.

One of the main reasons behind the increase is that authorities have in recent years been taking a series of measures to advance the integration of digital economy and marine economy.

For example, authorities launched a campaign to expedite the digital transformation of its traditional manufacturing industry in 2022, with 11 companies included in a pilot program aimed at building smart factories, and 14 enterprises selected to build digital transformation demonstration areas.

Authorities have also set up a one-of-a-kind marine data center which is designed to provide services to more than 1,000 marine companies.

In addition, Zhoushan has made significant progress in promoting digital transformation in the fields of shipbuilding, maritime communication, early warning system, as well as maritime search and rescue.

Authorities said they will also roll out favorable policies to attract more high-caliber talents to drive development in the city's digital economy.
