Authorities of Baisha Island in Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, have in recent years been exploring new means to enhance its common prosperity drive.
For example, the island, which is home to a national sea fishing training base, launched a sea fishing service center in February. The center provides services like study tours, training, catering and accommodation.
Sea fishing attracted 73,410 tourists in 2022 and generated a tourism revenue of 43.63 million yuan ($6.35 million), official statistics show.
Authorities have also been making efforts to create new business models since last year, with a film processing workshop commencing trial operations last October.
Meanwhile, the construction of projects related to calligraphy and painting, Chinese medicine, homestays, as well as a wedding ceremony base is underway. These projects will play a significant role in attracting more tourists to the island, said local authorities.
Authorities have also been providing policy support to these new businesses. Li Jie, one of the beneficiaries of the policies, said that she has saved over 10,000 yuan due to the favorable policies.
In addition, authorities have set up a company in Baishagang village that employs residents to make dried salted fish. The village's collective income in 2022 amounted to 1.22 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.2 percent.
Authorities are also planning to launch new projects like a diving training base and amusement facilities.
