Zhoushan takes steps to improve urban, rural landscapes

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province will implement eight measures to improve the landscapes in its urban and rural areas, according to authorities.

The measures include improving infrastructure, optimizing public community services, renovating characteristic streets, expanding green public spaces, and protect residences.

Specifically, authorities plan to invest over 30 million yuan ($4.36 million) in renovating its 13 micro public spaces and setting up facilities for leisure, public services and sports fitness in these venues.

They also plan to upgrade a 10-kilometer sewage network and build a 5-kilometer-long rainwater network.

Plans also include building eight provincial demonstration villages for livable environment and pleasant sceneries, five high-quality streets and four demonstration streets with good appearances.

The local government has also launched a campaign to protect traditional residences like stone cottages in its Dongji village as part of efforts to improve the living environment in rural areas.

In addition, authorities will channel more resources towards expanding parks and green space, as well as upgrading facilities along the city's ecological corridor, as part of efforts to transform Zhoushan into a modern maritime city.
