Ma'ao Museum in Dinghai district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province has been included in a provincial program aimed at popularizing the social sciences, the Zhejiang Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Circles announced on March 17. 

The 2,100-square-meter museum, which opened to the public in 2001, is the first town museum in the province. 

The museum featuring Zhoushan's prehistoric civilization has five exhibition halls and one multifunctional exhibition area. 

The museum boasts a collection of more than 300 cultural relics, including stone artifacts, pottery wares and folk custom relics. 

The museum is also planning to tap the town's agricultural resources like family farms to develop study tours, during which visitors can experience farming.
