A team of researchers from the China Jiliang University has discovered a new species of frog in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

The discovery by the research team led by Jin Yuanting, a professor from the School of Biological Sciences at the university, was published in the prestigious journal Asian Herpetologica Research on March 9, 2023.

The species, which was temporarily named F. kawamurai-ZS - ZS stands for Zhoushan - was found on a group of islands including Daishan Island, Putuoshan Island, Shengsi Island and Dongji Island.  

Jin and his team have been conducting research in Zhoushan over the past 10 years.
