Zhoushan's ship maintenance industry booming

Updated : 2023-03-14 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Ship repair and maintenance enterprises in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, had repaired 380 vessels from January to February and generated an output of 1.43 billion yuan ($207.78 million), a year-on-year increase of 46.2 percent and 61.2 percent respectively, according to official statistics.

One of the significant contributors to the increase is Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co Ltd, which has been making efforts, including improving repair solutions based on main engine spectrums and adopting ultra-high pressure water derusting robots, to improve services.

Changhong Shipyard, which generated an output of 250 million yuan in the first two months of this year, is fully booked till June.

The repair period has been reduced from 10 days to eight days due to the adoption of advanced technology, and the shipyard is expected to complete the maintenance of up to 220 vessels this year, up 20 percent year-on-year.

Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Co Ltd, which has seen a rapid increase in orders of the desulfurization tower modification, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent, is another significant contributor.

Chen Li, the deputy director of the business department of Cosco Shipping, said that orders of energy conservation and emission reduction projects, such as ballast water treatment system and shore power, have increased dramatically this year.
