Zhoushan was rated the safest city in East China's Zhejiang province in January 2023, local media reported.

The ranking was based on a safety index, an indicator introduced by Zhejiang that is the first of its kind in the country, to measure the safety level of cities in the province.

The index evaluates a city's safety in a variety of areas, including politics, society, finance, production, food, drugs, environment, internet, and information.

Zhoushan scored 98.96 points out of 100, followed by Jinhua and Jiaxing.
