The pelagic fishery industry in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province saw rapid growth in 2022, generating an output value of 37.96 billion yuan ($5.59 billion), up 7.5 percent year-on-year, according to official statistics.
The output value of the deep-sea fishing segment was 6.94 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26 percent.
The related service sector, which involves in marine transportation, loading and unloading, logistics, and ship repairs, generated an output of 9.15 billion yuan, an uptick of 16 percent year-on-year.
The output value of the deep-sea products processing and trade stood at 7.24 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent.
The output value of squid processing was valued at 3.39 billion yuan, up 5 percent year-on-year.
The transaction volumes of Zhoushan's pelagic fishery products were worth 14.63 billion yuan, of which 5.06 billion yuan was transacted online, a year-on-year increase of 47.6 percent, a record high.
Zhoushan has launched a three-year action plan aimed at building a complete pelagic fishery industrial chain that is expected to generate an annual output value of 60 billion yuan by 2025, according to authorities.
