Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province handled 624 million metric tons of cargo in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 3.91 percent, official statistics show.

Specifically, the river-and-sea coordinated transport volume was 301 million tons, up 7.08 percent year-on-year.

One of the main reasons behind the increase is the implementation of measures, including offering incentives and optimizing vessels, to promote the river-and-sea coordinated transport.

The total transport capacity of Zhoushan's river-and-sea coordinated transport reached 110,000 deadweight tons in 2022.

Authorities have also made efforts to launch new shipping routes that have played a significant role in increasing the transport volume of grain, iron ore and oil products by 65 percent, 44 percent and 41 percent respectively.

In addition, smart equipment has improved the port's operation efficiency greatly. The port's container throughput in November and December 2022 was 221,000 and 222,000 TEUs respectively, both monthly record highs.
