Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province made remarkable economic achievements in 2022.

Specifically, the city's gross domestic product (GDP) was valued at 195.13 billion yuan ($28.75 billion) last year, up 8.5 percent year-on-year, while its investment in fixed assets exceeded 100 billion yuan.

Zhoushan did well in implementing national strategies regarding free trade zones, river-and-sea coordinated transport, cooperation with Shanghai, as well as the integrated development of Ningbo and Zhoushan.

Last year, the city achieved several milestones. Zhoushan Port was ranked the fifth-largest bunkering port in the world and China's largest refining and chemical integration facility was put into operation. In addition, the city's river-and-sea coordinated transport reached 300 million metric tons, while construction of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway, Ningbo-Zhoushan highway, and Liuheng bridge started.

The city also made significant progress in setting up new projects and optimizing its industrial structure last year.

Zhoushan launched 56 projects with an investment of more than 100 million yuan each. Its investment in high-tech industries accounted for 36.3 percent of the city's total and the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 25.6 percent.

Authorities made great strides in improving residents' wellbeing in 2022, with 14 schools and five affordable canteens for seniors built. In addition, public security improved greatly.

In addition, Zhoushan made a series of efforts to help enterprises weather the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, improve its business environment, and advance rural vitalization.
