The industrial output of enterprises above designated size in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was valued at 341.34 billion yuan ($50.55 billion) in 2022, up 44.7 percent year-on-year, official statistics show.

The added value of the city's enterprises above designated size increased by 21 percent last year, the highest in the province, accounting for more than 40 percent of the city's GDP.

One of the key reasons behind the increase was that a large number of major projects were launched in Zhoushan.

Specifically, the refining and chemical integration project funded by Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co Ltd generated an output value of 230 billion yuan in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 65 percent.

Authorities made efforts to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of its shipbuilding industry, with the sector's output increasing 26 percent year-on-year last year.

Authorities unveiled a series of preferential policies to nurture more specialized and sophisticated enterprises that produce new and unique products, with 40 such companies and 80 enterprises above designated size established in Zhoushan in 2022.

In addition, the digitalization of major industries, such as the screw, ship maintenance, as well as chemical and plastic industries, played a significant role in advancing the city's high-quality development. As a result, the revenue of Zhoushan's digital economy increased by 15 percent last year.
