The construction of the Shanghai LNG terminal at the Yangshan deepwater port in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, started on Nov 20.
The 16.9-billion-yuan ($2.36 billion) facility, which is funded by Shenergy Company Ltd, a leading energy player in Shanghai, will be completed by the end of 2029.
The facility will help guarantee Shanghai's natural gas supply and be critical to increasing the natural gas supply capacity in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Listed as one of the major projects in the plans of Shanghai and Zhejiang in the 14th Five-year Plan (2021-25) period, the facility will have a 150,000-metric-ton LNG berth, 10 facilities for LNG storage tanks and related facilities as well as a 70-kilometer pipeline.
Building the facility is part of efforts by authorities to enhance sustainability and drive the integrated regional development of the Yangtze River Delta.
