Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has been recognized for its outstanding efforts in advancing common prosperity, according to an announcement by the provincial Publicity Department on Nov 7.
The city had in June launched a campaign to provide volunteering services to more than 1,958 elderly people on 21 remote islands, and this has greatly improved their sense of gain and happiness.
In addition, Zhoushan has established 23 volunteering teams consisting of more than 7,800 volunteers in its four counties and districts. These volunteers offer services such as medical services, haircuts, repairs and drama performances to residents of the islands.
Authorities have also integrated the functions of government bodies and social organizations, provided subsidies and unveiled a new app to help residents.
Zhoushan has also made remarkable achievements in promoting cultural and ideological progress, which would be key to improving its primary-level governance and advancing rural vitalization.
To date, authorities have launched 85 activities that offer services to residents on remote islands.
