The Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province has in recent years made significant achievements in storing and processing imported grain.

One of the biggest grain reserve depots in the province, this facility has a storage capacity of 334,500 metric tons.

Because of its geographical location, the depot mainly stores imported grain and currently holds 300,000 tons of imported wheat and soybeans.

The warehouses are ventilated based on the weather conditions and the grains are tested for moisture, impurity, tincture and odor during the binning and discharging processes to ensure its quality.

Random inspections are also regularly carried out in addition to the biannual general inspections.

The port has also made rapid progress in the processing of imported grain products.

Zhoushan Good Ocean Grains & Oils Co Ltd has a production line which can process 150,000 tons of soybean oil a year, and more than 80 percent of its by-products like soybean meal have been transported to farms in provinces like Hubei and Sichuan through the river-and-sea shipping routes.

The amount of imported grain in the port in 2021 was 23 million tons, accounting for 13.8 percent of the national total, and the amount was 20.39 million tons in the first three quarters of this year, accounting for 17.8 percent of the national total.

Zhoushan's Grain Industrial Park is currently home to more than 40 enterprises engaged in the processing, transport and trading of grain products.

Zhoushan will continue its efforts to build a complete industrial chain that covers import, storage, processing and trading to better ensure food security, according to authorities.
