Zhoushan adds one ship classification society

Updated : 2022-10-26 (chinadaily.com.cn)

The Overseas Marine Certification Services (OMCS CLASS) recently established a presence in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

This is Zhoushan's sixth ship classification society following the China Classification Society, Det Norske Veritas, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Lloyd's Register of Shipping and the American Bureau of Shipping.

OMCS CLASS is a leading ship classification society that provides a critical link in the marine risk management chain by serving as an independent institution operating between ship owners, builders, financiers, underwriters, flag administrations, and vessel charterers.

These societies greatly reduce service response times and better cater to the increasing demands of ship owners as well as attract more market entities to engage in the city's marine service industry, said a local official.

He added that ship classification societies will play a significant role in building a complete marine service industrial chain in Zhoushan.

Zhoushan has welcomed 148 marine service enterprises so far this year and is currently home to 577 marine service companies with a registered capital of 11.3 billion yuan ($1.57 billion) and $63.75 million.
