Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has over the past decade seen remarkable progress in its economic development.

Zhoushan's gross domestic product (GDP) has expanded at an average annual growth rate of 8.7 percent over the last 10 years, and its per capita GDP currently stands at 147,000 yuan ($20,352), official statistics show.

Over the past decade, the added value of Zhoushan's industrial enterprises above designated size increased at an average of 14.9 percent annually.

During the same period, the city's fiscal revenue and general public budget revenue grew at an average annual rate of 11.3 percent and 9.7 percent respectively.

These achievements are largely due to Zhoushan's efforts to develop its marine economy as well as oil and gas industry.

The added value of Zhoushan's marine economy had grown from 44.3 billion yuan to 115.9 billion yuan during the same period. The production of Zhoushan's pelagic fishing industry now accounts for more than one-fifth of the national total.

Zhoushan's shipping industry has also made significant progress over the past 10 years, and the city is currently home to major shipping enterprises such as Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co Ltd and China Cosco Shipping Corporation Limited.

The city has also made outstanding accomplishments in its oil and gas industry over the past decade.

Zhoushan's green petrochemical base processed 26.52 million metric tons of crude oil in 2021 and generated a combined output value of 139.02 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 85.8 percent.
