Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province saw its cargo throughput hit 464 million metric tons in the first three quarters of this year, up 3.95 percent year-on-year, official statistics show.
Specifically, iron ore throughput stood at 136.24 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.95 percent. This is largely due to Zhoushan's efforts to improve its storage terminal infrastructure, said a local official.
During the same period, the port handled 12.38 million tons of grain products, an increase of 23.08 percent year-on-year.
One of the reasons behind this growth is the port's exploration of new ways to transport grain products. For example, the port has launched river-and-sea coordinated transport services that will significantly reduce transportation time and costs.
In addition, the port has been striving to advance the digital transformation of its container terminals. Due to these efforts, the Dapukou container terminal within the Jintang port area of Zhoushan Port now has a bridge crane that can automatically identify the location of container carriers and carry out loading and unloading operations.
The Dapukou container terminal has also opened new shipping routes this year, including the East African route, New Zealand route and Russian route, all of which have injected vitality into Zhoushan Port's development.
