Eighteen inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province were recently honored as masters of arts and crafts in the city.

Among the 18 recipients, 11 are from Putuo district.

Putuo has in recent years made concerted efforts to promote the protection and inheritance of local intangible cultural heritage. The measures taken include establishing special organizations and allocating a special fund.

In addition, the district authorities have set up an assessment and reward mechanism for inheritors, offered apprenticeship courses, and staged intangible cultural heritage performances at festivals every year to raise awareness.

To date, Putuo has trained nearly 100 inheritors of local intangible cultural heritages such as flea dance, fisherman's chant and ship boxing.
