A new species of macromycete in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was recently discovered.

The species was named Boletellus putuoensis and research on it was published in Phytotaxa, a professional journal of classification, in July.

According to a biodiversity survey carried out in March 2021, Putuo is currently home to 2,980 biological species, including 41 national-level new record species.

The population of the Chinese pangolin and small Indian civet, two animals under national first-grade protection, in Putuo are currently stable, according to the survey.

In addition, the survey team found 94 invasive plants, four invasive terrestrial vertebrates and five invasive freshwater aquatic organisms in Putuo.

Putuo is one of the 29 key areas for biodiversity research in the province. It is also the only district listed as a provincial key area in this regard in Zhoushan.
