Daishan county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was recently conferred a provincial honor for its outstanding efforts in sustainability. 

The county has since 2014 been taking measures, including building zero direct sewage discharge areas and promoting the green transformation of local aquatic enterprises, to improve its water environment.

To date, 12 aquatic enterprises have undergone green transformation.

The county's ratio of days with fine air quality also rose from 97 percent in 2013 to 98.6 percent in 2021.  

According to a local official, a good natural environment will play an important role in attracting investment to the county, which will in turn aid the county's common prosperity drive. 

Zhu Guangmiao, a Ningbo businesswoman, decided to invest 1.5 million yuan ($215,400) to build a campsite in the county because of the county's pleasant environment. 

Local authorities have over the past decade rolled out a string of measures to streamline the approval process for environmental projects, and this has greatly optimized the county's business environment. 

Authorities have also welcomed an environmental protection company to build a 5-million-yuan solid waste disposal facility that will facilitate the disposal of industrial waste. The facility is expected to be put into operation in September.
