Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has achieved remarkable achievements in improving its maritime economy since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, authorities announced at a news conference on Aug 23.
He Zhongwei, Party chief of Zhoushan, said that the city has been making concerted efforts to bolster its marine industry over the past decade.
For example, authorities have implemented a series of measures to develop islands as part of efforts to establish a modern marine industry system.
The city has also made great progress in developing its petrochemical industry, setting up a complete gas and oil industrial chain that covers the production, storage, shipping and sales of gas and oil products.
Zhoushan is currently home to China's biggest petrochemical base, a major shipping and storing base for bulk commodities and the national largest oil and gas trade port.
Shanghai-based RMS Marine Service Co Ltd registered two companies on Xiaogan Island of Zhoushan in August that will significantly speed up the transformation and upgrading of the city's marine service industry.
Zhoushan is presently home to 510 marine service companies that provide services including bunker oil supply, ship maintenance and ship transaction.
