The proposed move to expand port areas in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was recently approved by the State Council, China's cabinet.

According to the approval announcement, five port areas in Zhoushan will be expanded by 112.5 square kilometers.

The city currently has 1,457.3 square kilometers of port areas.

The Daishan port area will be expanded by 69.18 square kilometers, the Ma'ao port area will be expanded by 1.55 square kilometers, the Baiquan port area will add 15.36 square kilometers, the Jintang port area will grow by 24.45 square kilometers, and the Shenjiamen port area will add 1.92 square kilometers.

Six key projects operated by companies, including Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co Ltd and ENN (Zhoushan) LNG Co Ltd, were set up in the five port areas.

Expanding port areas will be useful in helping enterprises expand market reach and enhance production capacity, said a representative of ENN (Zhoushan) LNG Co Ltd.

The expansion of port areas will also facilitate the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone's creation of a complete gas and oil industrial chain, which will in turn promote the transformation of the province's economy.
