Intelligent monitoring system put into operation in Aoshan port area

Updated : 2022-08-05 (chinadaily.com.cn)

An intelligent monitoring system was put into operation in the port area of Aoshan Island of Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 2.

The system, consisting of a smart hub, high definition video cameras and transmission apparatus, is used to conduct 24-hour monitoring of areas including terminal areas, ship-to-shore interface and the outer surface of a ship's hull.

The system is currently focused on identifying risks such as fire hazards on deck, oil spills, crew not wearing safety helmets, making calls or smoking on deck, and not wearing COVID-19 protective gear.

Introducing intelligent technology into the safety supervision of terminals will greatly improve the capability to identify risks and send early warnings, said a local official.

The Zhoushan government is also making efforts to explore new supervision modes, including carrying out quality control of vessels which have arrived at the port to boost its oil and gas industry.

In addition, local authorities are accelerating sharing information among relevant agencies including customs offices, marine offices and frontier inspection stations.

Aoshan port area is a bonded fuel oil transport hub in the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone with an annual throughput of 40 million metric tons of oil products. Nearly 9,000 oil tankers call at the port every year.
