The Shengsi port area in the Zhoushan area of China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has been ramping up efforts to promote the high-quality development of its shipping industry.
The port area has been channeling its resources toward creating a friendly business environment. Measures taken include offering policy support to shipping enterprises to ease tax burdens, streamlining the approval procedures and providing low-interest loans.
Authorities helped shipping companies obtain about 10 million yuan ($1.48 million) in loans from the Agricultural Bank of China from January to June.
The port area has also been making efforts to introduce and cultivate leading shipping companies.
As of the end of June, the area had 18 ships with a combined deadweight of 533,200 metric tons, accounting for 78.22 percent of the area's total transport capacity. The area has also built a large container ship with the highest energy rating in China. The vessel was put into operation on July 4.
The port area is presently home to a logistics facility that cost more than 100 million yuan to build, five maritime enterprises and two shipping companies.
