The construction of a minerals processing facility started on July 7 in the Majishan port area in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.
Led by Baogang Steel Plant, the 400 million yuan ($59.2 million) project is the first in the world by a steel plant that features the blending of a variety of iron ores at a coastal harbor.
The construction is expected to last 12 months.
The facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 20 million metric tons of iron ores blends and an annual revenue of 140 million yuan.
Ore blending will not only facilitate the transformation of the port into a processing trade port, but also have a great impact on the steel plant's distribution system, procurement, inventory, processing techniques and ore blending standards.
