Baisha Island in the Putuo district, Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province is one place where tourists looking to beat the summer heat should check out.

Besides providing a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city, the small, idyllic island offers tourists the chance to take in stunning sea views and swim in clear blue waters off its coast. Visitors can also choose to go hiking and admire the flowers littered along its nature trails, explore the island on a kayak, or do fishing.

Dubbed "a paradise for fishing", the island has held many fishing contests in recent years and has a selection of charming restaurants that offer freshly caught seafood.
