Zhejiang authorities recently published 16 intangible cultural heritage-themed travel routes, including one in Zhoushan.

The Zhoushan travel route is a merger of the two-day Putuo Island route and one-day ancient Dongsha fishing town route.

The Putuo Island route connects Donggang subdistrict, Zhujiajian scenic spot, Shenjiamen fishing port, and Zhanmao town, allowing visitors to learn about wooden boat-making and fishermen's paintings and try out traditional children's games on islands.

The ancient Dongsha fishing town route features the Museum of Jin Weiying's Lifetime, China Marine and Fishery Museum, and food streets filled with Dongsha's local delicacies.

Tourists can also visit the studios of inheritors of local intangible cultural heritage items, including puppet shows, fishermen's paintings, ship models, salt carving, fishbone painting, and fishing rope knots, and watch quyi (a general term for Chinese folk arts such as xiangsheng and pingshu) performances.

Zhejiang currently is home to 241 national intangible cultural heritage items, including six from Zhoushan and 10 on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Zhoushan houses 38 provincial intangible cultural heritage items and 81 municipal intangible cultural heritage items.
