A 100-ton unmanned surface vessel began its sea trial voyage in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 10.

With a length of over 40 meters and a width of about 13 meters, the surface vessel has a water displacement capacity of about 200 metric tons and can travel at speeds of up to 20 knots.

It is capable of normally operating among 2.5- to 4-meter-high waves and moving safely among 4- to 6-meter-high waves.

The surface vessel was created by more than 40 research institutes and shipbuilding companies, including two based in Zhoushan. The research team will also test the unmanned surface vessel's performance, including collision avoidance, in Zhoushan.
