Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province launched a campaign on June 7 to improve the wellbeing of residents of the city's small islands.
The city is expected to spend three years to create 30 beautiful small islands that offer residents a high quality of life, which forms part of its efforts to contribute to Zhejiang's construction of a demonstration zone for common prosperity.
Development of the islands will focus on sightseeing, island culture, water sports and entertainment, the fishery industry, and blue carbon – or carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems.
Renovations will first be carried out on 12 islands in the city, including Cishan Island in Dinghai district, Miaozihu Island in Putuo district, Xiaochangtu Island in Daishan county, and Shengshan Island in Shengsi county.
