Putuo district is aiming to transform itself into a new hub of the modern marine industry by upgrading traditional industries and cultivating emerging industries.

It has already built the largest eco-friendly shipbuilding base in China, and three of its shipbuilding companies are among the top 10 in the country.

The deep processing rate of aquatic products in the district has exceeded 55 percent, with the deep processing of tuna and sleeve-fish accounting for 60 percent and 50 percent of the national totals, respectively.

Meanwhile, Liuheng Island in Putuo has been developing its clean energy, port equipment manufacturing and bulk commodity storage and transportation industries by leveraging its advantageous location and solid industrial foundation.
