Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province plans to make its shorelines and sea areas more beautiful, local media reported on May 18.
The Zhejiang Provincial Government recently launched an action plan on the protection and construction of beautiful shorelines and sea areas.
The plan states that Zhejiang supports Zhoushan in constructing a national marine park on the Zhongjieshan Islands and Ma'an Islands, both of which have been listed as national special marine protection areas.
With a total area of 202.9 square kilometers, the Zhongjieshan Islands is a heaven for marine life with zigzagging coastlines and a healthy natural environment, while the 549-square-kilometer Ma'an Islands is the main breeding area for yellow croakers, hairtail, and squid.
Zhejiang also supports the construction of national marine ranch demonstration zones in the city's Putuo and Shengsi to better conserve marine biodiversity.
Statistics from the Zhoushan marine and fishery bureau show that in 2021 the city released more than 1.2 billion fry into the sea, and their survival rate rose from 3 percent to more than 10 percent.
Since 2003, Zhoushan has put over 500,000 square meters of artificial reefs into its sea areas.
To create cleaner and more beautiful sea areas, Zhoushan has set up a team of yachts to collect garbage floating over the sea and restored 150,000 square meters of wetland.
The plan also includes four island parks in Zhoushan, including Dinghai Island Park, Putuo Island Park, Daishan Island Park, and Shengsi Island Park among the 10 major island parks in the province.
