Updated : 2022-05-18 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has been building research and development bases in an effort to achieve innovative development in recent years.

The marine biological industry pilot research and development base, which started operating last year, is expected to help startups transform their research into products.

The base provides companies, universities and research institutes with services related to pilot plant testing, new product development, equipment sharing, and technical talent training. To date, the base has attracted more than 10 startups and R&D institutions.

Built by the Zhoushan municipal government, Zhejiang University, and the Second Institute of Oceanography, the Donghai Laboratory will focus on researching marine resources and environmental dynamic systems to support the development of Zhoushan's marine digital economy, intelligent equipment, and clean energy industries.

The Zhoushan municipal government is also working with Tsinghua University and Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical Co Ltd to build the Green Petrochemical Technology Innovation Center, which will focus on the capture and high value-added utilization of carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and more.

Zhoushan has also established five provincial-level industrial innovation service platforms, which have served more than 60,000 companies and developed over 300 new products.
