Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province generated 302 million kilowatt hours of power in 2021 through photovoltaic power projects, local media reported on April 20.

The city receives a lot of sunshine compared to most other places in Zhejiang and for more than 1,300 hours a year it is bathed in the sunshine.

Zhoushan is currently home to 69 photovoltaic power projects with a combined capacity of more than 80,000 kw. They are expected to reduce electricity bills for businesses by about 20 percent, save about 31,512 metric tons of raw coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 61,775 tons per year.

At the very beginning of this year, the first building integrated photovoltaic project in Zhejiang was put into operation in Zhoushan. Compared with the traditional photovoltaic power system, the project utilizes roofs more efficiently and has lower construction costs.

In addition, the roof drainage system of the BIPV project prolongs the service life of building roofs and photovoltaic modules to 25 years or more under natural conditions.

The project will generate 6.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is equivalent to saving 26.26 million tons in raw coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 50 million tons, saving businesses more than 3 million yuan ($467,000) in electricity bills.
