CPPCC Zhoushan committee members and deputies to the Zhoushan Municipal People's Congress made a number of suggestions and proposals on how to achieve common prosperity in the island city of Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, at the annual two sessions, which were held in the city from April 12 to 16.

Yang Song, deputy to the annual congress and head of Shengsi county, suggested that the city encourage owners of homestays to rent out the residences of senior residents as homestays, while reserving a room in the house for the resident to live.

"Such a practice could offer company to seniors living alone while homestay owners benefit from the boom in island tourism," added Yang.

Zhoushan should continue improving the basic healthcare service system on its islands, said Fang Tao, a CPPCC Zhoushan committee member and deputy head of the city's health commission.

He proposed that the city continue recruiting retired outstanding doctors around the country and training young doctors of traditional Chinese medicine for grassroots medical establishments on islands.

Ye Weiyin, a CPPCC Zhoushan committee member and deputy director of the local municipal bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, said he believes that local fishing villages should not limit themselves to the development of homestays and should highlight their own distinct features and develop their own unique industries.
