Zhoushan to improve quality of life

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province plans to improve living standards for locals this year, as was decided by deputies to the eighth Zhoushan Municipal People's Congress during the first session on April 14.

The city will establish and revamp five elementary and secondary schools, including Chengbei Primary School in Dinghai district and Haixing Middle School in Shengsi county.

In addition, all districts and counties in the city will establish three treatment centers for chest pain, stroke, and trauma and three sharing centers for testing, imaging, and pathology, respectively. The city will also build another two emergency stations outside hospitals.

Zhoushan plans to renovate 350 buildings in old communities and 1.83 million yuan ($287,000) subsidies for rent will be given to 300 households.

It will also further improve the quality of drinking water this year by building two water works and finish construction on 80 kilometers of water supply pipes.

Three dining halls for senior residents to eat in or take out will be established in Putuo and Dinghai districts, ensuring that local seniors can visit a dining hall within a 15-minute walk and nursery institutions will be available in three additional towns and subdistricts in the city.

Zhoushan will also improve 32 km of rural roads, install street lamps on 26 km of rural roads, and establish 10 community health service centers in rural areas.

It will establish one rehabilitation institution for children with disabilities and provide rescue rehabilitation services to 110 children with disabilities. It will also renovate 180 households with disabled family members by adding barrier-free facilities.

More sports facilities, including four sports parks, two soccer fields, and eight fitness rooms, will be built in the city this year as well.
