The first session of the eighth Zhoushan Municipal People's Congress commenced in the city of Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on April 13.

Xu Renbiao, acting mayor of Zhoushan, delivered the municipal government's annual work report, reviewing the achievements made by the city over the past five years and outlining a roadmap for the city's economic and social development over the next five years.

He said that over the past five years, Zhoushan has pursued high-quality development by focusing on the maritime economy, improved the well-being of local residents and administrative services, and its urban and rural areas have taken on a new look.

Xu stressed that by 2026, the city's GDP is expected to amount to 270 billion yuan ($42.4 billion), its per capita GDP would be included among the top 10 in the country, and the per capita disposal income of local residents would reach 85,000 yuan.

From 2022 to 2026, the city will invest more than 180 billion yuan in infrastructure and further improvements are expected to be made in its innovation capacity, strategic status, and digital management, noted the acting mayor.

According to Xu, Zhoushan will continue to develop the petrochemical and new material industries, accelerate the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, cultivate emerging industries, and put an emphasis on the service industry.
