The first two nucleic acid testing vehicles in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, have been deployed at Zhoushan Hospital on April 2, local media reported.

The nucleic acid testing vehicles highlight quick response and can help reduce the time used in transporting and testing nucleic acid samples in an effort to reduce the risk of infection in the city.

"After receiving the samples, all testing works can be done on the vehicle. The testing results can be produced within three to four hours," said Li Shibo, deputy director of Zhoushan Hospital.

The vehicle can screen up to 86,000 people per day using the mixed testing approach, according to Li.

Since the Omicron variant was first detected in Zhoushan on March 17, the city had reported 12 confirmed cases as of 9:20 am on April 7.
