The request to use the national geographical indication certification trademark on little yellow croakers farmed in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was approved, according to municipal ocean and fishery bureau.

GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation due to that origin, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The croaker is the seventh aquatic product in Zhoushan that uses such a trademark. The other six are Shengsi mussels, Zhoushan hairtail, Zhoushan yellow croaker, Zhoushan Portunus trituberculatus, Zhoushan silvery pomfret, and Fodu nori.

Zhoushan little yellow croaker is one of the four major fishes produced by Zhoushan fishing grounds. They are also one of the fishes with the highest yield in the city.

With tender fixture and delicate flavor, Zhoushan-grown little yellow croakers have always been popular among enthusiasts of seafood.

In addition to aquatic products, 16 other products produced in Zhoushan also use the national GI certification trademark.
