Dapukou wharf launches route to Papua New Guinea

Updated : 2022-03-25 (chinadaily.com.cn)

A container carrier recently left Dapukou wharf in Jintang port area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, East China's Zhejiang province, for Papua New Guinea and other countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, marking the launch of the wharf's new international route, local media reported on March 24.

One container carrier is expected to operate along the route every 10 days.

There are currently 25 international routes from the wharf to 41 ports in West Africa, Russia and other countries and regions involved in the BRI.

Between July 2010 when it started operating till the end of February this year, the container throughput of the Jintang port area had amounted to 10.13 million twenty-foot equivalent units.

Since last July, the Zhoushan shipping and port bureau, Zhoushan Customs, as well as four other local port authorities have been cooperating in streamlining clearance processes, and this has resulted in customs clearance time for bulk cargo being reduced by 70 percent.

To facilitate customs clearance, Zhoushan Customs now will also get into contact with local wharfs, shipping agencies, and customs agencies in advance to learn about the information concerning the berth of ships and cargo clearance.
