The CNFC Overseas Fisheries Co Ltd branch in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province received a letter of appreciation from the Chinese embassy in Kiribati on March 16 after the company saved three Kiribati fishermen.

The letter says that the company's behavior has received wide attention and high praises from Kiribati people and they are grateful to these Zhoushsan sailors.

At around 5 pm on March 8, sailors working on the company's ship Jin Sheng 8 heard cries for help before they found a boat with three people. The trio had been drifting in the sea for 20 days because of a broken-down engine.

The three fishermen are currently being taken care of on the ship and the company has reached out to the Chinese embassy in Kiribati to determine the best way to get them back to their country.

In late 2021, Zhoushan fisherman Wang Lubin also helped rescue a malfunctioning yacht in Kiribati.
