Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province recently published a five-year plan to promote public fitness, local media reported on March 1.
By the end of 2025, Zhoushan residents would have a fitness center located within 10 minutes of their homes, the per capita sports area would reach 3 square meters, and 40 percent of local residents would exercise regularly.
In the recent two years, Zhoushan has developed sports parks based on existing parks and multi-purpose playgrounds in residential communities.
"In the future, there will be more sports parks and more intelligent sports facilities in Zhoushan," said Fang Jinjun from the local municipal culture, broadcasting, tourism and sports bureau.
From 2021 to 2025, Zhoushan will establish 20 football fields and 50 fitness centers as well as pave 83 kilometers of greenway and 50 km of fitness paths for mountain climbing. The city will also build or reconstruct 10 sports parks during the period.
Zhoushan will create an outdoor sports industrial chain by promoting the construction of sports tourism facilities, including campsites and beach facilities, to attract tourists through sports.
The city will also promote folk sports activities, including kite flying, dragon boat racing, and mud skiing, and encourage teenagers, senior residents and people with disabilities to take part in physical exercise.
