Construction of the anchorage for recreational fishing boats recently began at Shenjiamen Port in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, as a part of efforts to develop the sea fishing industry, local media reported on Feb 22.

In recent years, Putuo district has ramped up efforts to support the sea fishing industry so as to construct a "town of sea fishing in East China". Putuo is currently home to more than 400 recreational fishing boats, but it is difficult to manage them as there is no regular anchorage ground.

With a combined investment of more than 18 million yuan ($2.84 million), the 370.7-meter anchorage ground will have 61 berths, including 59 berths for 10-meter boats and two for 15-meter boats.

"The anchorage ground is expected to standardize the berth of recreational fishing boats," said Zhang Jun, deputy general manager of Putuo District Fishing Port Construction Management Co Ltd. "More detailed measures will be rolled out to manage these boats to avoid accidents."

Zhang added that more businesses involving sea fishing tackle and ship maintenance will be introduced to Shenjiamen Port to create a better environment for sea fishing.
