Five villages in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, made the first list of pilot future rural communities to be constructed, according to a recent notice released by provincial authorities.

The villages are the Xinjian and Ma'ao villages in Dinghai district, Huangyangjian village and Dongji islands in Putuo district, and the Huaniao islands in Shengsi county.

A future community, with a focus on harmony, green development, intelligence, and sharing, is designed to improve the quality of life of residents.

A staff member at the Zhoushan municipal bureau of agriculture and rural affairs said that about 280 million yuan ($44.18 million) will be invested in the five villages to assist with future rural community construction.

The construction of future rural communities in these villages will center around industry, culture, healthcare, low-carbon lifestyles, transportation, and intelligent management, according to the staff member.
