Huaniao town in Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province has been recognized as the province's highest 5A-level scenic town, according to Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
Located in the northernmost edge of Zhoushan, Huaniao town is surrounded by the sea and includes Huaniao Island and 11 uninhabited islands.
Huaniao Island is a tranquil area with a famous scenic spot – the Huaniao Lighthouse.
The views from the Huaniao Lighthouse are said to be the best on the island. The lighthouse was built by China Customs in 1870 and is one of the oldest lighthouses in the country.
Due to its size, functionality, and historical and geographical significance, the structure was dubbed the "No 1 lighthouse in the Far East". It was also honored by the State Council as a key cultural relic under State protection in 2001.
To become a 5A-level scenic town, Huaniao town has been creating a comfortable and beautiful environment in an environmentally friendly way.
The Huaniao village in Huaniao town has also been listed in the first batch of demonstration villages in Zhejiang for the development of nature reserves.
