An additional seven home-based senior care centers have been established in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province this year, making home-based senior care available for all local senior residents, local media reported recently.
The Qiandao subdistrict home-based senior care center is one of the seven newly-established centers. It includes a reading room, a fitness and rehabilitation zone, a chess and cards room, a dining room, as well as a shower room.
"The center's environment is nice," said Chen Fuzhong, aged 71. "I usually come here to play chess, read books, and watch television."
According to Wang Kejie, who is in charge of the senior care center, it receives an average of 60 to 70 senior residents per day since it began its trial operation in October.
Wang said that starting from December, the center will operate a canteen for senior residents, as well as provide food delivery service to senior residents in Wanyang and Lyudao communities, benefiting more than 100 senior residents.
Statistics from the Zhoushan civil affairs bureau show that the city has invested nearly 80 million yuan ($12.55 million) in building 37 home-based senior care centers, which are operated by professional institutions, since 2018.
Zhoushan has also made full use of the existing establishments, including seniors' homes in rural areas and community health care institutions, to offer senior residents professional day- and full-time care services.
