Zhanmao, a subdistrict in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently listed among the 11th batch of national demonstration towns for characteristic industry development, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Zhanmao is a nationally renowned "town of sleeve-fish" and has focused on the development of its sleeve-fish industry over the past few years.

A relatively complete industrial system featuring sleeve-fish catching, processing, trade, and scientific research has taken shape in Zhanmao and its processing and its sales of sleeve-fish account for more than 50 percent of the market share in China.

This year, the subdistrict plans to invest 720 billion yuan ($112.76 billion) in boosting the sleeve-fish and tuna industrial chains and improving comprehensive economic strength.

Zhanmao is expected to create a favorable business environment and introduce advanced technologies and high-profile professionals in the future so that it can become a model of rural revitalization and a hub for the maritime industry.

Three towns from Zhejiang made the list of towns that have a characteristic industry with an annual output value of at least 1 billion yuan.

Ten villages from Zhejiang were also included in the nation's list of villages that have a characteristic industry with annual output values of at least 100 million yuan.
